How can I get my house to smell better? It stinks right now!?
I have 1 cat, 1 dog and 4 working fish tank in a 2000 sq ft house. The litter box is beside a window and door, and I clean the litter box out 2 times a day. The dog doesn’t have accidents in the house and gets a bath twice a week. I keep my house pretty clean. I’m not a neat freak, but I don’t let dishes sit, and the bathrooms get cleaned twice a week.
Lately the house has started to stink. It’s everywhere. It smells like warm puke, with something sour.
I have aired the house for 3 days, sprayed everything down with fabrieze, washed all clothing, sheats, comforters, and blankets. The cat and dog eat dry food. Also the house is only 2 years old.
I have gone over the house with a fine tooth comb and I can not figure out what is making the smell, and I can’t figure out how to get ride of it. Please help me. Any suggestions? Home remedies?
I looked under the house, and there is no dead animals or anything that would cause such a stink. What could it possibly be???
I like to use arm&hammer kitty litter for my cats litter box. I used to maintain fish tanks totalling 170 gallons. Never had an odor like you are describing.
I am concerned that there may be a pipe leaking somewhere that may not be detectable to our naked eardrums. My boyfriend works in water/utilities. He said that pipes leak unbeknownst and tools must be used to detect leaks. He works on fire hydrants, too. Sometimes there are valve issues. I would consult your local city water department and ask if they have been doing hydrant and valve testing in your area. Maybe they need to check it out. Ask your surrounding neighbors if they have noticed an odor in their homes.
For the air, I use a spray bottle of water (20 ounces) that I have added a Tablespoon baking soda, and a 1/2 teaspoon vinegar.
