What do I need to have a good time ice fishing for the first time?
I want to go ice fishing this winter at Whipple Dam State Park near State College, PA. I’ve never gone ice fishing before, but I have done a LOT of fishing in the past. I am planning on going with four buddies of mine. I know I need an auger some tip-ups and ice fishing poles. I know the lake has a lot of pickerel and some trout. What kind and how many tip-ups and rods (I have plenty of reels) should I use (keeping in mind we have five people), what kind of bait/lures should I get, and what else do I need to make this an enjoyable trip? Any help is appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
A bottle of your favorite Brandy!
(lol)
2 poles per guy.
1 auger with “sharp blades”.
At least 1 Vexilar to check fish activity & depth.
“Heat a Seat” cushions.
Camp chairs & Two 5 gallon buckets.
A portable fish house.
“Ice Cleets” to keep you from slipping and bustin’ your head open.
At least 3 Tip-ups.
A portable “Buddy” heater.
Aqua View Camera.
A portable TV & radio.
2-3 types of bait,(minnows,shiners,meal-worms).
Tackle-Rapala Jigs in various weights & Jigs in various weights, split shot, baithooks, “bobber stops” & foam floats. You will also want to have your reels lined with a good “ice braid” line.
Beer, Vodka, Brandy, Rum, Etc.
Hope this helps ya?
